How this Bitcoin calculator works
The converter at the top of this page pulls Bitcoin's current market price directly from CoinGecko, one of the largest cryptocurrency data providers, and multiplies it by the amount you enter — the same way a currency exchange calculator works, except the exchange rate updates in real time instead of daily.
The formula is simple: Amount in BTC × current BTC price in your chosen currency = value received. To convert the other direction (a fiat amount into BTC), the calculator divides by the current price instead.
Why does the price shown here sometimes differ slightly from an exchange?
Bitcoin doesn't trade on a single, centralized market — it trades on hundreds of exchanges around the world simultaneously, and each one can show a marginally different price at any given moment. The price on this page is a volume-weighted average across major exchanges, which is why it may differ by a small fraction of a percent from the price on any one specific exchange you check.
How is the Profit Calculator different from the live converter?
The live converter uses today's price. The Profit Calculator instead looks up Bitcoin's real historical price on the start date you choose, calculates how much BTC your investment would have bought at that price, and then values that BTC at today's (or your chosen end date's) price to show the real profit or loss — all from CoinGecko's historical market data, not an estimate.
Frequently Asked Questions
How much is 1 Bitcoin worth in USD right now?
The converter above updates with the live Bitcoin price pulled from the market every time you load this page or change an amount, so it always reflects the current BTC/USD rate rather than a stale or estimated number.
Where does the live Bitcoin price on this page come from?
Prices, market cap, volume, and the price chart are pulled live from CoinGecko's public market data API, the same data source used by many exchanges and portfolio trackers, refreshed each time you load or recalculate the page.
Can I convert Bitcoin to currencies other than USD?
Yes — the converter supports switching either side to any of the major currencies and cryptocurrencies listed in the dropdown, including EUR, GBP, INR, and other popular fiat currencies alongside BTC and other coins.
How is Bitcoin profit calculated in the Profit Calculator?
Profit is calculated as (current BTC price × amount of BTC your investment bought at the start date) − (your original USD investment). The percentage return is that profit divided by your original investment, expressed as a percentage.
What is the Bitcoin Fear & Greed Index?
It's a 0–100 sentiment score built from Bitcoin's price momentum, volatility, and volume. Scores near 0 mean "Extreme Fear" (the market is more nervous/bearish), while scores near 100 mean "Extreme Greed" (the market is more euphoric/bullish). It reflects mood, not a guaranteed price direction.
Is this calculator giving investment advice?
No. This tool shows live and historical prices and does simple arithmetic on the numbers you enter — it is not financial advice, and cryptocurrency prices are volatile and can go up or down. Always do your own research before making investment decisions.
How often does the Bitcoin price update on this page?
The converter and live price panel fetch a fresh price from CoinGecko each time you load the page, change an amount, or click refresh; CoinGecko itself typically updates market prices every 1–2 minutes.
What's the difference between Bitcoin's price and its market cap?
Price is the cost of a single Bitcoin. Market cap is the price multiplied by the circulating supply (about 19.7 million BTC), representing the total value of all Bitcoin currently in circulation — it's the number most commonly used to compare Bitcoin's overall size to other assets.
This calculator provides live and historical Bitcoin market data for general informational purposes only and is not financial advice. Cryptocurrency prices are highly volatile; always do your own research before making investment decisions.
