A worked example
Scoring 90/100 on homework (worth 30%) and 80/100 on a midterm (worth 30%) gives a current weighted grade of 85% across that 60% of the course.
For the term as a whole rather than one class, our GPA calculator weights each grade by credit hours across semesters.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the calculator ask for weight percentages?
Most courses don't weigh every assignment equally — a final exam often counts far more than a single homework set. Weighting reflects that structure, rather than simply averaging every score equally.
What if the calculator says I need more than 100% on the final?
That target grade isn't mathematically achievable given your current standing and the final's weight — even a perfect score wouldn't get you there. You'd need to either revise the target or see if extra credit is available.
What if my weights don't add up to exactly 100%?
The calculator normalizes against whatever weight you've actually entered, but for an accurate 'final score needed' projection, your graded-items weights plus the final's weight should add up to 100%.
