Times crossing midnight (end time earlier than start time) are handled automatically.

A worked example

A shift from 9:00 to 17:30 with a 30-minute break comes to exactly 8 hours worked.

Frequently asked questions

What if my shift crosses midnight?

If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator assumes the shift continues into the next day and adds 24 hours automatically — so an 10 PM to 6 AM shift correctly comes out to 8 hours.

Why subtract break time separately rather than just entering shorter hours?

Keeping the break as its own field makes it easy to adjust break length without re-figuring the whole shift, and mirrors how most timesheets and payroll systems actually record the data.
